The Virginia Department of Education (VDOE) is pleased to announce that the 2011-2012 Parent Involvement Survey for the Annual Performance Report (APR) Indicator 8 is ready for dissemination and collection.
We realize that some families need or would prefer to use paper surveys. Please call if you would prefer a paper survey. You may come by the Parent Resource Center to access a computer to complete your survey.
The collection window for the survey will begin November 1, 2011 through June 30, 2012. During the collection window VDOE will engage in a number of technical assistance outreach efforts to parents and parent organizations to ensure that every parent of a child with a disability in the commonwealth has the opportunity to participate in the survey. VDOE has set a goal of significantly increasing the responses from families who have children with disabilities in Virginia.

Announcement from the Virginia Department of Education:
A study of truancy and dropout prevention by the Virginia Commission on Youth (COY), November 2009, found that there needs to be a greater focus on early intervention and attendance efforts at the elementary school level. As part of its recommendations, the COY requested that Virginia's Parent Resource Centers include information on their Web sites and in mailings on the factors that place children at-risk of dropping out of school and the options which might be available to help reduce that risk. VDOE has promoted and continues to promote summits, regional meetings, and workshops to offer technical assistance and support focused upon dropout prevention and persistence to graduation. These resource materials include suggested books and Web sites that are research based and represent best practices in the field. These can be found at the following link:
